Kenny's Profile

Kenny Pope · Senior Pastor

President or Precedent? An article in the Dallas Morning News the day after President Clinton acknowledged his infidelity declared that: "President Clinton exemplifies baby boomers who are called the ‘me generation.’" The article went on to explain the self-centeredness of boomers (those born between 1946-1964). How ironic it is that the first boomer President is compared to John F. Kennedy. In his most famous speech, Kennedy challenged: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country."

Has the President set a precedent for all of us who are called baby boomers? I hope not! Have you considered what is most important in your life? The entire ministry of Jesus was to get people to be God-centered rather than self-centered. His purpose was to develop "giving" lives instead of "taking" lives.

Consider these nuggets of truth from Jesus:

  • Give to those in need Matthew 5:42
  • Give up your life to Christ Matthew 10:39
  • Giving to others represents Christlikeness Matthew 10:42
  • Giving up your life is real living Matthew 16:25
  • Giving brings God’s blessings Luke 6:38

Jesus Is a Giver. He loves to give. Do you love to give? Have you committed your entire life to Jesus Christ: your time, your money, your ambitions, your habits, your relationships, your career, your home, and your energy? Is President Clinton exemplary of your life? Let’s prove the skeptics wrong!

First Steps. If you are a new believer, or if you need a refresher in the basics of Christianity, sign up now for First Steps: Growing In Christ. I will be leading this six-week class, which begins on Tuesday night, September 29th, at 7:00 p.m. The class meets at our home on 824 Canongate Drive. Write on your green information card the words "First Steps" and I will hold a place for you. Ask those who have been through this class and you will see why this is so important for those who want to grow in their relationship with Christ.

Attention Men. I hope you’re already making plans to join me at our Men’s Cookout on Saturday, September 12th, at 6:30 p.m. You don’t need to bring anything. Just bring a friend and join us at our home (824 Canongate) in Flower Mound. We’ll have a great time of fun and fellowship.

Bring a Friend to Friend Day. September 20th marks NorthShore’s second annual fall Friend Day. Plan now to invite a friend who does not attend church to this special event. We’ll have an exciting Celebration Service, a free meal, and great fellowship afterwards. This is a great time to introduce people to NorthShore and let them experience the love of Christ firsthand.

NorthShore Boulevard. Have you driven down NorthShore Boulevard in front of our church property yet? The street is in and landscaping is being done. I recently spoke with the developer and he said the first house should be completed by the end of the year. Plans are for 144 homes to be built behind our property. What an exciting opportunity for NorthShore to reach people for God’s Kingdom!

Now that we have access to our property, we’re making plans to use it. On October 18th, we will have a special Celebration Sunday and go to the land after the second service for food, fellowship, and recreation. Plan to join us there.

Life’s Ultimate Questions is an 8-part series running throughout the month of September. There are times when we all ask certain questions regarding life. Invite a friend as we explore what the Bible says about these important questions.

I love you and thank God for the privilege of being your pastor. See you this Sunday as we seek the Lord together...
