Sowing
for the Spirit
"Do
not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The
one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap
destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit
will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at
the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give
up."
Galatians 6:7-9 NIV.
Have you ever
noticed those people who just seem to live the Christian life the way
Jesus intended? They are always serving people, they don't gossip,
they never take advantage of someone. They are always quick to fix a
meal for a hungry person or prepare a bed for a weary one. They never
complain, but are always happy. They give their last dollar for the
cause of Christ.
The widow in the 2nd
chapter of Luke is one of those. So is Mother Theresa. These people
never considered the cost to themselves. They did not become weary.
The sowed to please the Spirit. Maybe
you have had the privilege of personally knowing someone like that.
Maybe you haven't. I knew someone like that, my mother. She and my
aunt lived together after my father passed away. And they were just
alike.
One Sunday, their
church honored them for their Christian Service. They wept in humility
as they were escorted to the platform. The minister ask all who had
eaten in their home to stand. Nearly the entire congregation stood. We
joked about my aunt, looking through teary eyes to see who was still
sitting. My mother has gone on to reap her eternal reward. I don't
think she would ever say she regretted sowing for the spirit. I know I
can never do as well as her. I only pray I can do my best.
